#MakarSankrant is observed for transition of Sun into Makar Rashi. End of Winter days and start of longer daytime than night also known as #Uttarayan. It is also the start of the harvesting season. Assamese call it as Magh Bihu, in north India its Lohri (Lohdi), Tamilnadu observes this day as Pongal with cooking freshly harvested rice.
